Projects

Termovalle Power Project

This 205MW gas-fired combined cycle was developed, financed and managed in its entirety by Dorado Group companies. The project’s construction was overseen by Dorado subsidiary K&M Advisors. Termovalle was the first project in Latin America and in Colombia to sell to a government owned utility (CVC/EPSA) without any Government Guarantee. It was also the first project to borrow directly from the InterAmerican Development Ban without a Government guarantee. Dorado performed several refinancings of the project and ultimately recognized over 100 times multiple on its investment when it fully divested the asset in 2014.

Hub River Power Project

Dorado predecessor companies acted as lead developer and owner’s engineer of this pioneering power project structured and financed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis. The transaction secured, for the first time ever, World Bank financing of a private infrastructure project. The project Sponsors consisted of Xenel Industries of Saudi Arabia, National Power of the United Kingdom, Mitsui & Co. of Japan, Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries of Japan, and K&M Advisors of the United States.

Mamonal Power Project

The Company, through affiliate and special purpose vehicles sponsored, managed, developed, financed, managed the construction and operated the entire project from conception until it was sold in its entirety in 2006.  The Mamonal Project was the first to obtain a non-recourse loan from a commercial bank without a Sovereign Guarantee in all of Latin America. It was also the first project in Colombia to enter into an innovative long-term financial lease and the first long term gas and transportation contract for a power plant. It also provided the necessary institutional and regulatory framework to allow for free access to distribution and transmission system.

Termocandelaria Power Project

This 335MW power project was sponsored, conceived, developed, financed, managed and operated in its entirety by Dorado Group companies. K&M Global Construction performed the turnkey EPC in a joint venture with Siemens Westinghouse Corporation. The Company and its affiliates were the controlling shareholder. This 335 MW gas-fired merchant power plant located in Cartagena de Indias was the first merchant plant   developed and financed in its entirety with private, non-recourse financing.
